John R. Burr’s Billy Joel Reimagined: A New York State of Jazz features acclaimed vocalist Darryl Rowe in a soulful exploration of Billy Joel’s celebrated songbook.
John and his ensemble reinterpret these familiar songs through jazz, blues, soul, and improvisation. Their arrangements bring new harmonic colors, rhythmic energy, and emotional depth while preserving the melodies and storytelling audiences know and love.
Darryl Rowe’s warm and expressive voice moves effortlessly between jazz, R&B, and soul, bringing both intimacy and power to Billy Joel’s music. John’s imaginative arrangements create space for spontaneity while highlighting the emotional range of each song.
They are joined by drummer Jason Lewis, whose extensive credits include Boz Scaggs, Kurt Elling, Gary Burton, and Taylor Eigsti, and bassist Matt Finders, a former member of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno band.
