About the event

Two-time Grammy Award–winning violinist Mads Tolling brings a distinctive voice shaped by both tradition and wide-ranging musical experience. Originally from Denmark and now based in the Bay Area, he has been recognized with the DownBeat Critics Poll Rising Star Award and named Jazz Performer of the Year by SF Classical Voice. A former longtime member of Stanley Clarke’s band and the Turtle Island Quartet, Tolling has also toured and recorded with Bob Weir & Wolf Bros, and collaborated with artists including Chick Corea, Kenny Barron, Paquito D’Rivera, and Ramsey Lewis.

He is joined by pianist John R. Burr, one of the Bay Area’s most in-demand pianists. Known for his warm touch and lyrical, song-centered approach, Burr has toured extensively with Maria Muldaur and The Alison Brown Quartet. His playing draws from jazz as well as folk and vocal traditions, with a focus on clarity, phrasing, and musical storytelling.
