Get ready for an evening filled with bright rhythms, warm melodies, and irresistible grooves as guitarist Ray Obiedo brings his Latin Jazz Ensemble to Meyhouse Jazz.
Drawing from Latin jazz, Brazilian music, funk, and contemporary jazz, the ensemble moves effortlessly between lively percussion, lyrical guitar lines, rich horn colors, and open-ended improvisation. The music is sophisticated yet inviting—full of rhythmic energy, unexpected turns, and the kind of groove that makes it difficult to sit completely still.
A defining voice in Bay Area jazz, Obiedo brings decades of musical experience to the stage, including a world tour with Herbie Hancock and a longtime association with Latin jazz legend Pete Escovedo. His sound reflects the many influences that have shaped Northern California music, from Antônio Carlos Jobim and Miles Davis to James Brown, Motown, and Afro-Latin rhythms.
