French-Malagasy pianist and composer Mathis Picard brings a strikingly original voice to contemporary jazz, weaving together jazz tradition, classical virtuosity, stride piano, global rhythms, and a modern rhythmic sensibility.
A Juilliard graduate who studied under legendary pianist Kenny Barron, Picard was awarded Second Prize at the 2014 Montreux Jazz Festival Piano Competition and is an ASCAP Next Generation of Songwriters recipient. Since then, he has built an international career as a pianist, composer, producer, and bandleader, performing throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Picard has shared the stage with an extraordinary range of artists including Ron Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Christian McBride, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Cyrille Aimée, Braxton Cook, and Etienne Charles.
