About the event

Gershwin to Jobim: A Journey from New York to RioThursday, [insert date here] – 7PM & 9PM at Meyhouse Jazz

Join us for an evening of exquisite, melodic jazz as the Kristen Strom Quartet takes you on a musical voyage from the sophistication of George Gershwin’s American Songbook to the lush, rhythmic beauty of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s Brazilian bossa nova.

With her “lithe and lustrous” tone (San Jose Mercury News), Kristen Strom is one of the West Coast’s most revered saxophonists and vocalists. Her expressive playing and warm vocals set the stage for a soulful and exhilarating night of jazz, capturing the spirit of two musical cities—New York and Rio—each iconic in its own right.

She is joined by her long-time collaborators:

  • Scott Sorkin on guitar, whose harmonic richness and intuitive phrasing make him the perfect complement,

  • Noriyuki “Ken” Okada on bass, bringing depth, groove, and subtlety,
