Two-time Grammy Award-winning violinist Mads Tolling joins Juilliard-trained pianist Oskar Yao for an intimate Classical Sunday at Meyhouse.
The program weaves together the lyrical beauty of Edvard Grieg, the folk-inspired warmth of Antonín Dvořák, the charming virtuosity of Fritz Kreisler, and the jazz-infused brilliance of George Gershwin. Drawing on their shared Scandinavian upbringing and musical journeys to the “New World,” Tolling and Yao explore how place, culture, and folk traditions shaped these composers’ distinctive voices.
Tolling’s expressive tone and dynamic stage presence meet Yao’s nuanced, powerful piano playing in an intimate yet electrifying musical dialogue. From the Nordic elegance of Grieg’s Wedding Day at Troldhaugen to the rhythmic sparkle of Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess, the duo brings fresh energy and sensitivity to each work.
