Prize-winning 14-year-old violinist Calliope Smith joins pianist Kim Lee for an evening exploring the violin’s remarkable range of color, character, and storytelling.

From the lyricism of Bach and Beethoven to the fiery virtuosity of Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen, the program moves through some of the violin repertoire’s most expressive works. The second half brings the dreamlike world of Prokofiev’s First Violin Concerto, Amy Beach’s intimate Romance, and the folk-inspired energy of Bartók’s Rhapsody No. 1.

A prize winner at international competitions including the Arthur Grumiaux International Violin Competition, the Aleksey Gorokhov Competition, and the Vancouver International Music Competition, Calliope has already appeared as soloist with five orchestras and continues to emerge as an exciting young classical artist.
