Called a “composer with great vision” by All About Jazz and a “flute virtuoso” by The Boston Globe, flutist and composer Christian Artmann brings his acclaimed quintet to Meyhouse for an evening of adventurous contemporary jazz shaped by music from across traditions.
A Sunnyside recording artist praised by JazzTimes for his “stunning virtuosity,” Artmann creates music that moves freely between contemporary jazz, European classical and Eastern European folk traditions, Brazilian music, and progressive rock. His distinctive approach to the flute has been described by The Flutist Quarterly as “a model of what is possible with jazz flute.”
For this performance, Artmann is joined by an exceptional group of longtime collaborators: acclaimed pianist Laszlo Gardony, DownBeat Rising Star bassist Jeff Denson, veteran drummer Yoron Israel, and vocalist Elena McEntire.
